Beat to the Balance 2018.

Beat to the Balance was in Art Ii Biennale in Ii, Finland in June 2018. From the AIB website: Art Ii Biennale addresses current themes, participates in the public discussion through the methods of art and to boldly combines the cultural heritage of Ii with the contemporary art. A crucial part of the event is to facilitate interactions between the local community and international art professionals through communal activities. The Art Ii Biennale’s site-specific art works are mostly in the environmental–art park of Ii and village centre. Temporal, local and cultural conditions affect the production of these art works. One of the main values of the event is ecological, economical, social and cultural sustainability.

The concept of the Art Ii Biennial 2018 was built around the concept of water: water as the fundamental element in all forms of life, a cultural interface, a transformable material, a natural storage medium.

I would like to thank the curators Anastasia Patsey, Antti Tenez and Merja Briñón for inviting me and for composing a beautiful programme. Big thanks also to the truly empathic production team: Heini Perttula, Jetta Huttunen and Kaisa Silvo. Thank you to Riitta Räinä and the fellow artists, too. Thank you for those brave people who took part in Beat to the Balance.
